Day by Day / Villa players you forgot played for us
« Last post by martin@ on January 13, 2015, 11:37:57 AM »
Watched some highlights of our 3-0 win over Sheffield United just now, memorable day. Patrick Berger scored a nice goal which actually reminded me he played for us for apparently 3 seasons.

I think he had a good run of form round that point as apparently he still was in our squad for 2007/08 even though I can't recall him being involved in any games that year? Same for 2005/06!

Which is the one for you that apparently played for us but you can't remember them.

The first all-electronic H&V will be out on Friday, so if you want to buy it you'll have to get your subscription this week. I fact the sooner the better because once you buy you get access to our back issues of the past couple of years as well .

In General / Third Division or nowadays

Some of the away games were fantastic. The look of awe on the faces of 3rd Division regulars as we took over the grounds was something to behold. I can still remember standing outside PortVales' ground as the Villa hordes marched up the road and joining in with the chants as they got nearer.

Day by Day / Randy Lerner - How will his reign be remembered?

Assuming that a deal goes through in the summer and it doesn't drag on and on for seasons, how do you think his reign will be remembered when the dust has settled?

In General / Stan Crowther RIP

Another one gone from the FA Cup wining '57 squad.

Being part of the hastily put together Man U team after the Munich disaster, he played in both the 1957 and 1958 FA Cup finals.
Man of the match in the 1957 FA Cup final, and the only player to have played in an FA Cup match when he was cup tied.

Stan didn't want to go to Man Utd. He wanted to stay at Villa. He was more or less forced to go by Eric Houghton (the Villa Manager) who thought it was the right thing to do after the Munich tragedy.

Stan described the Villa in 1974 as "The greatest club in the country". "It was a great privilege to to play for the Villa but I wish I had quit the game after the 1957 final". "I didn't want to play for Manchester United".

I know they get mentioned regularly but tonight was borderline hilarious. I switched on, they were talking about the Stripeys (one point in two games, star striker vanished they know not where). No problems there. Then Small Heath (three points from  four games, administration and/or relegation beckoning). Not particularly bothered. Then a Villa (better start than we expected, with luck could have been even better) supporter rang up. Cue a rant from Paul 'Franksy' Franks about how badly we played on Saturday - he listened on the radio, which was big of him; Randy never spends anything, the fans want answers, the players aren't good enough.

Who was it said that every set of fans thinks the media is against their club, but WM aren't even trying to hide their agenda anymore?
